A Personal
Statement
Summer drops, performance, (2022).
As a multidisciplinary artist, I place at the heart of my work an interrogation of the cultural codes that interfere between Europe and Latin America. This main subject is not only a geographical exploration, but also a deep reflection on identity, collective memory and the social dynamics that shape our perception of the world. I use my own journey as a dual-culture individual to address the tensions and harmonies that emerge when these two worlds meet.
The particularities of each culture while revealing the similarities that unite them. For example, through pictorial compositions or ceramic installations, juxtaposition of emblematic visual elements of Colombia with European cultural references, seeking to create a dialogue between these disparate influences. This approach allows me to decontextualize objects and figures that one might consider familiar, infusing them with new meaning.I am particularly interested in how individuals navigate these intertwined spaces, often marked by identity struggles and fragmented belonging. Addressing the question of belonging and alienation by representing characters who evolve in ambivalent landscapes, symbols of a passage between two worlds. In addition, the impact of contemporary society on human relationships, driven by globalization and technology are an important subject hovering constantly during the composition of my work. Reflecting on the consequences of these influences on our daily lives, questioning the notions of community, isolation and connection, especially In the age of social media, where interactions can be both instantaneous and superficial, I attempt to capture moments of vulnerability and intimacy, offering a subtle critique of modern life.
In short, my work presents itself as a space for dialogue and reflection on crucial socio-cultural issues, placing personal experience at the center of a broader artistic exploration that resonates with the current events of today's world.
